Prof., Member of Task Assignment Force and Trainer, Translation and Interpreting Association Turkey-Emergency and Disaster Interpreters (ARÇ)
She holds a BA from Hacettepe University in English Language and Literature (Ankara, 1985); MA and Phd from Gazi University in English Language Training (Ankara, 1988, 1994). She worked at Gazi University, Hacettepe University and has been working at İstanbul University since 1996. She published on text-analysis for translation, translating female literary discourse, community interpreting (emergency and disaster interpreting), news translation. She has been a conference interpreter since 1992.. She is the author of Çeviride Dil ve Metin (Language and Text in Translation) 2003, Çeviride İdeoloji, İdeolojik Çeviri (Ideology in Translation and Ideological Translation) 2008/ 2018 2nd ed. Tercüme Hatası!? (Translation Mistake!?) 2015/ 2022, 2nd. ed., Türkiye’de Futbol Çevirmenliği (Football Interpreting in Turkey) 2018. She translated more than 50 titles since 1989 (novels, short story compilations from American and English literature); non-fiction (art history, archaeology, tourism/ Ministry of Culture and Tourism, philosophy/ Vernon Press) and articles for academic journals. She is a member of Çeviri Derneği (Association of Translation and Interpreting-Turkey) and ÇEVBİR (Literary Translators’ Society-Turkey); founding member and trainer of ARÇ (Emergency and Disaster Interpreting Volunteers); coordinator and member of the national working committee responsible for writing Translators’ Vocational Qualifications for the Ministry of Labour and Social Security since 2012.
