Mapping Marmara Region: Çanakkale
Exhibition Launch: October 4th at 15:30 @ Foyer
In the third iteration of the “Mapping the Marmara Region Project”, as part of the MARUF on the Go events, Çanakkale has been selected as the “Preliminary Biopsy Area” in 2023. In the study, “value-data” regarding Çanakkale were analyzed in a multi-layered and cross-referenced approach with an asset-based analysis, resulting in the findings. Hosting physical layers extending from ancient cultures to the present, along with the reflection of key factors shaping the natural and social situation of the region, Çanakkale also carries distinct iconic identities in different historical periods. The region presents a variable texture, encompassing interactions of different types and scales, from the macro relationships of the 21st-century world to site-specific microhabitats.
Within the workshop, the aim was to create a multi-layered re-evaluation approach to Çanakkale through the mentioned empirical themes and to provide an assessment of its current situation. In this context, Çanakkale value data/assets were gathered under seven exploratory headings through a regional asset-based mapping approach, aiming to present a critical analysis of the past and present of the Çanakkale Region and to enable the establishment of a future projection through the identified negative and positive situations.
