M. Ergün Turan

Mayor, Fatih Municipality

Mehmet Ergün Turan was born in 1967 in Istanbul and graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering, Istanbul Technical University. He engaged in commercial activities in foreign trade and construction sector for many years and carried out the engineering and implementation processes of a number of projects.

Within the scope of public service, he worked as the Technical Vice President of Güngören Municipality, a member of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Assembly Reconstruction Commission and a member of the IMM Council between the years 1999 and 2005.

Having served as the Deputy Chairman of the IMM Assembly in the 2007-2009 term and then as the Deputy Chairman of the AK Party Group of the IMM Assembly in 2009-2014, Mr. Turan was appointed to the Prime Ministry Housing Development Administration (TOKI).

He been interested in—and has worked on—urban planning, building and urban culture, traditional architecture, Turkish House, Seljuk and Ottoman architecture, Anatolian settlement culture as well as the local architectural trends and development models in Istanbul, Historical Peninsula on social, cultural and economic scales.

He resigned from the Chairmanship of TOKI on 30 November 2018 and was elected Mayor of Fatih in the elections held on 31 March 2019.
