Sevgi Ortaç
Artist
Sevgi Ortaç (1984, İstanbul) studied film and fine arts. She worked on the Ancient Land Walls of Istanbul, producing a short film Singlewallcity (2006) and an artist book The Monument Upside Down (2010). She directed a series of short films called Cities (2007-2009) produced and broadcasted by Mezzo, France. She participated in local and international art and research projects on urban transformation, right to the city, and local resistances; Global Prayers - Redemption and Liberation in the City by metroZones (2011-12) and in Actopolis: The Art of Action(2015-2017). She worked on crafts culture of Istanbul in Şişhane and Kapalıçarşı with Aslı Kıyak İngin, producing exhibitions, publications and events including Crafting Neighbourhoods (Adhocracy, 1st Istanbul Design Biennial, 2012, Adhocracy Athens: From Making Things to Making the Commons, 2015) and Master May I do it? Dreams to Realities: Projections on Education, VÇMS, Istanbul Modern, 2014. In 2022, her speculative dictionary work about the ancient castle of Mardin called Commanding Heights was published. In 2023 she has produced and directed Small Finds, an essay film reflecting on archeological excavations of ancient city of Olympos. She has participated in right to the city and urban food collectives such as DÜRTÜK and KUÇE. She is a part time lecturer at Koç University since 2017.
