Date / Time: October 6, 14:00-16:00
During this urban route, participants will have the unique opportunity to visit the "No Further Records: Reşad Ekrem Koçu and Istanbul Encyclopedia Archive" exhibition, which is a result of Salt's collaboration with Kadir Has University since 2018, with the narration of Salt Research and Programs team.
The exhibition sheds light on previously unpublished sections of the Istanbul Encyclopedia, to which historian and novelist Reşad Ekrem Koçu (1905-1975) dedicated a significant portion of his life. The exhibition is spread across the floors of Salt Galata and considers the building itself as an urban focal point. It presents its material selection within a framework centered around the Galata district, bringing to the forefront Koçu's unique urban image and the inhabitants he portrayed in Galata and its immediate surroundings, spanning from the early 19th century to the mid-20th century. The exhibition traces the lives of those who lived in the urban space surrounding the building for a century and those who lived outside Istanbul's traditional neighborhood structure, as indicated by the phrase "no further record has been found" found at the end of some entries, marking a departure from official historiography.
